Pinarayi-Isaac axis against media

13 Sep 2009

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The tirade of CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan against the media on Friday was part of a script he had co-authored with Finance Minister Thomas Isaac. Sources in the CPM told 'Express' that the second part of this script will be released soon in the form of a book penned by Isaac. In his research series, Isaac is planning to bring out a book that will expose the anti-Communist role of the media. Isaac and Kairali TV executive editor N P Chandrasekharan will complete the book soon.

The book, it is learnt, is a logical attempt to put on record the unfair treatment meted out by the media against the CPM.

One of the hidden agendas behind Pinarayi's outburst against the media is setting an atmosphere conducive for the marketing of the book. The brains behind the book see this as "a perfect opportunity" to launch the book. To step up the attack against the media, the party cadres will need to buy the book and the party organs will have to give maximum possible coverage to it.

But this is just one of the agendas and probably a minor one of the Pinarayi-Isaac axis. Many in the party see Pinarayi's attempts as a veiled attack against Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Earlier, Pinarayi dared to challenge the Opposition to name the son of the Minister in connection with the Paul George murder case. The name of Bineesh Kodiyeri was shouted by the BJP and the Youth Congress and eventually Kodiyeri had to convene a press conference to say that his son "was not involved in the murder".

The second appearance of Pinarayi was also at the wrong time. It was after the dust had almost settled down with the arrest of Omprakash and Puthenpalam Rajesh that Pinarayi provoked the media and the Opposition. By dragging the name of leaders like V M Sudheeran, he ensured that the entire Congress party will stand united and fight against the failure of the Home department
