Kerala becoming goonda's own land: Chandy

Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Oomen Chandy said the state has failed to maintain law and order and alleged that the state is turning out to be Goonda's own land and not God's own land. People are living under the constant fear of goondas, he alleged.

The state is trying to dilute the Goonda law introduced by the UDF. The government is trying to protect the goondas as is seen in the declining number of goondas in the goonda list prepared during the UDF rule. He flayed the government for not trying to arrest Om Prakash and Rajesh who were associated with the Paul murder. Though days have elapsed the police are unableto trace them and this is because of their strong political connections, he alleged.

Chandy was inaugurating the KPCC secretariat march against the Quotation gang and the goonda raj in the state. Continuing to attack the LDF govt, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala asked if the state is devoid of any police rule. The state is becoming a haven for goondas, thieves and murderers. Kerala is witnessing a link between the CPM and the goondas. He alleged that the CPM is utilising these goondas for party activities and demanded the resignation of Kodiyeri.

P P Thankachan, G Karthikeyan, Thallekunnil Basheer, Thennala balakrishna Pilla, also participated in the dharna.
