Rail budget: 7 new trains for Kerala

Mamata Banerjee's railway Budget for Kerala has managed to give the state its due share. Her first sop to Kerala came in the form of a drinking water bottling plant to be set up at Thiruvananthapuram to provide drinking water at a cheap rate. 6 bottling plants for clean water at cheap rates have been given approval in public-private partnership (PPP) mode.

Her next goodie to the state is the approval for the Kanjikode coach factory at Palakkad to be started this year itself. She has announced setting up of 5 new coach factories across the country. A coach factory in Rae Bareli has also been approved in the year 2011.

A survey for introducing railway linefrom Punalur to Thiruvananthapuram, Madurai to Kottayam, Dindigul to Kumali, Thallassery to Mysore, Chenganoor to Thiruvananthapuram via Adoor and Kozhikode to Angadipuram in Malappuram district.
The Dindigal - Pollachi - Palakkad line to be converted to broad guage line.

The state has also been approved 7 new trains. Pune- Ernakulam Superfast Express, Mumbai-Ernakulam Turanth Express, Kanyakumari – Bhopal via Thiruvananthapuram Express, Kozhikode - Thiruvananthapuram Jana Shatabdi Express, Thiruchirapalli - Mangalore Express, Bharath Theerth Express from Himachal to Kanyakumari , Kozhikode – Kannur passenger, Nilambur - Shornur new passenger train, Mangalore –Kannur passenger extended to Kozhikode.
