Heavy polling in Kerala in initial hours

Thiruvananthapuram: An estimated 20 per cent of the total 2.18 crore electorate exercised their franchise in the first three hours of polling in Kerala's 20 Lok Sabha constituencies.

Polling is progressing peacefully throughout the state, where long queues were visible before all the booths right from 07.00 a.m., when voting began.

Though the sky was overcast in the morning, the state has remained free of rains so far. No untoward incident has been reported from anywhere.

Early voters included Defence Minister A.K. Antony and Congress candidate from Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor in the state capital, senior Congress leader K. Karunakaran in Thrissur and CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan in Kannur.
