Vijayan wants VS to resign

9 May 2009,

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After succeeding in getting the state cabinet say ‘No’ to his prosecution by CBI, Kerala CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan now wants CM V S Achuthanandan to quit.

The fight between Pinarayi and Achuthanandan reached a feverish pitch on Friday with the state secretary-led faction demanding the CM’s resignation at a CPM meeting. Pinarayi loyalists said Achuthanandan must go for violating party discipline in the SNC-Lavlin scam. Early this week, the state Cabinet decided not to give permission to CBI to prosecute Pinarayi.

The resignation issue was raised in the state secreteriat meeting with Pinarayai himself initiating the debate. As criticism of the CM poured in, even Achuthanandan’s friends like P K Gurudasan backed the move and suggested it was better for him to remit office.
