Thachankary's suspension term extended to 6 more months

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has decided to extend the suspension term of IG Tomin Thachankary who had undertaken a foreign trip without the consent of the state government. The term is being extended as per the report of the review committee headed by chief secretary.

The review committee has decided to extend the suspension term as Thachankary had failed to furnish a satisfying explanation to the letter filed by the government stating that he had revoked the service rules.

Thachankary's foreign trip triggered a controversy . Thackankry was suspended for three months as per the report of DGP Jacob Punnoose and Intelligence ADGP Dr Sibi Mathews. The reply field by Thachankary on the notice sent by chief secretary also created a row. The case between government and Tomin is now under the consideration of the Central Administrative Tribunal.

The letter filed by Tomin seeking to take him back as the three months suspension period was over was examined by the committee comprising chief secretary P Prabhakaran, DGP Jacob Punnoose, home ministry additional chief secretary K Jayakumar and a decision to extend the same was taken.
