Sunanda to surrender stake in Kochi IPL

In what is being viewed as a compromise formula, Sunanda Pushkar is reported to have surrendered her stake in controversial Kochi IPL, said a TV news channel today. This may come as a huge reprieve for Shashi Tharoor who was under pressure after allegations that he had misused his authority to help his friend Sunanda Pushkar get 'free' equity worth 70 crores in the Kochi IPL franchise.

According to the TV news channel which quoted sources, Tharoor lobbied for Sunanda's stake to be raised even higher and party so far does not accept his explanation completely.

Congress sources say it would have looked better if Tharoor had at least offered to resign, report said.

Meanwhile, Tharoor, a short while back met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to brief him about the Kochi IPL row ahead of the Congress Core Committee meeting on Sunday evening to decide Tharoor's fate.
