DMK to hold protest meeting at Madurai on November one

Chennai, Oct 21 (PTI) Apparently targeting Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh for allowing Kerala to do a survey to build a dam across inter-state Mullaperiyar river, the ruling DMK today announced a protest meeting led by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in Madurai on November one to 'condemn' the move.

In a brief statement, the DMK, without mentioning Ramesh's name, said "party president (Karunanidhi) will participate in a massive meeting in Madurai to condemn the functioning of a Union minister of state on the Mullaperiyar issue."

The announcement came on a day when the Supreme Court rejected Tamil Nadu's plea for a stay on the survey, stating that "at this stage, no order is called for."

The Bench said the apprehension of Tamil Nadu that the survey was being conducted to build a new dam was "misplaced" and it is "premature" for it to pass any order
