Muthoot murder: Cong wants Home Minister out

29 August 2009

Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress Saturday demanded the resignation of Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, whose son has been linked by the opposition to the sensational murder of Muthoot business group scion Paul M. George.

"Balakrishnan has lost the trust of the people in the manner in which he has handled the home portfolio. (Chief Minister V.S.) Achuthanandan should take over the portfolio," senior Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran said here.

Sudheeran accused the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) of being in nexus with criminals, who get the support of corrupt police officials.

State Youth Congress president M. Liju also hit out at Balakrishnan, alleging that he was hiding leads in the murder of George, who was killed in Alappuzha Friday.

Liju demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the killing.

Balakrishnan denied allegations that his son Bineesh was in anyway involved in the murder.

Congress MP and former state minister K. Sudhakaran said the relation was well known between Bineesh and Om Prakash, one of the two people with known criminal records, who was with George when he was murdered.

George was travelling with Prakash and P. Rajesh Friday night when he was murdered.

The duo are absconding while 14 people have been arrested, including K. Satish, who police alleged stabbed George.
