Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala police have begun a probe into the fake letters sent in the name of Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and Home Minister K Balakrishnan to the Union Home Ministry regarding IPS officers’ selection. The government have also written to Home Minister P Chidambaram stating that the letters were fake and contained his forged signatures and that of Balakrishnan, Achuthanandan told reporters here after a Cabinet meeting.
The state has also requested the Centre to order a probe into the origin of the letters, he said. State Director General of Police has been directed to investigate about the letters that were received by the Home Ministry recently, Achuthanandan said replying to a question. The two letters in the name of the Kerala CM and the Home Minister requested Chidambaram not to consider any candidates from the list of superintendents of police to the posts of IPS as there was no vacancy in the state. The letter also bears the seal of the state Home Minister, government sources said.
