Kottayam: A Rs 9.56 crore inland container terminal under public and private participation was inaugurated by Kerala Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem here Monday. The Port and Container terminal, set up on 10 acres of land at Nattakom here, and expected to handle 6,000 containers a year, will transport export commodities, especially spices, from central Kerala, comprising Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki districts.
Setting up of this terminal would ensure that export of commodities, especially spices, would become hassle-free and cheaper compared to the present mode of freight movement through Kochi port, Kareem said.
