Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 12: A day after first swine flu death in the state, Kerala cabinet Wednesday took stock of the situation created by the spread of virus and decided to draw an action plan to check the disease.
The state cabinet was of the view that the spread of virus was creating concern and posing threat to people, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told reporters here.
The government has decided to allot Rs two crore for arranging for flu treatment facilities at major hospitals, he said adding a special meeting of health officials will draw an action plan to deal with the emerging situation.
The Cabinet has also asked the Union Government to recognise the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology here as a centre for testing the virus, he added.
The cabinet meeting comes in the wake of 35-year-old Wilson Luckose succumbing to the disease at a private hospital in the city last night A total of 55 confirmed flu cases had been reported in the state. Of this ten were under treatment at various centres, Health officials said. Meanwhile, condition of a man who arrived from Dubai on August 11 with fever and suspected flu symptoms and is admitted at a private hospital in Kochi was serious, they said adding he was first admitted to Aluva taluk hospital and later shifted to the hospital after his condition turned critical. Reports of his throat swabs, which was sent to Delhi, are expected today, they added.
