Second Rajya Sabha seat goes to CPI. Candidate to be declared on 2nd Feb.
The most surprising part of today’s LDF meet was that when the RSP (Revolutionary Socialist Party) decided to leave the Rajya Sabha seats this time and set their eyes only on the Lok Sabha seats.
Turning a blind eye towards the cries of the Janata Dal secular and the Kerala Congress, the LDF state committee’s meet, held at Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday, decided to give the second Rajya Sabha seat to the CPI, in Kerala.
The CPM, which is the major partner of the LDF in Kerala, had yesterday decided P. Rajeevan, Resident editor of Deshabhimani as their candidate in one of the two seats. The party which had earlier demanded one seat for 16 MLAs asserted their right to both the seats.
The heavy task of seat sharing was, however, tactfully handled by the CPM, after asserting their demands. The party demanded that if both the seats are given to them they would keep away from the next Rajya Sabha elections. But as they are forced to share one seat with the alliance partners now, they would demand both the seats next time.br>
However, it was decided to give the argufied seat to the second largest alliance partner CPI at the end.
The most surprising part of today’s LDF meet was that when the RSP (Revolutionary Socialist Party) decided to leave the Rajya Sabha seats this time and set their eyes only on the Lok Sabha seats. The party was expected to demand the pending seat for their national general secretary, TJ Chandrachoodan.
Meanwhile, the CPI state secretary, KE Ismail, on Saturday, stated that their candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections would be announced on 2nd February, after the party secretariat’s meet.
