Thiruvananthapuram: Former CPM MP A P Abdullakutty from Kannur was among three candidates announced by the Congress for as many assembly by-polls from Kerala slated for November 7.
Former state minister Dominc Presentation would contest the Ernakulam seat and Alappuzha DCC president A A Shukoor from Alappuzha. This was announced by KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala after the party high command cleared the list submitted by the state unit.
Twice elected to the Lok Sabha on CPM ticket from Kannur, Abdullakutty was expelled from the party on the eve of the last parliament poll after falling out with the party on a host of issues including his controversial statement praising the development model of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
He has since then joined the Congress. The three seats fell vacant on resignation of their assembly membership by K Sudhakaran (Kannur), K V Thomas (Ernakulam) and K C Venugopal (Alappuzha) on their election to the Lok Sabha on Congress tickets.
