Tamil Nadu Tuesday informed the Supreme Court that it will not oppose construction of new dam at Mullapriyar if the control of the dam is given to the state.
Appearing for Tamil Nadu, senior counsel K. Parasaran told a five-judge Constitution Bench, headed by Justice D.K. Jain that the state is ready to provide Kerala with the power generated by the new dam if Kerala is open to the idea of Tamil Nadu controlling the new dam.
During the hearing held last Thursday Tamil Nadu had taken the stance that its dispute with Kerala on the Mullaperiyar Dam was not an interstate water dispute that needed resolution through a water tribunal.
The dispute is only limited to whether the century-old dam can withstand the water pressure up to a height of 142 feet, the counsel for TN had said.
