Thiruvananthapuram : As many as 150 junior Ayurveda doctors have been selected as masseurs for the Commonwealth Games to be held during October in New Delhi.
Talking to UNI today, Thiruvananthapuram Ayurveda Medical College Principal Dr P K Ashok said, ''the selection of doctors from the State by the Commonwealth authorities is regarded as a great achievement for Kerala, which is the only State in India to practices this system of medicine with absolute dedication.'' This was the first time that Ayurveda doctors had been included as masseurs in a Commonwealth Game and the entire team has been selected from Kerala, he added.
''A two-day seminar is being held here in which as many as 40 foreign experts are providing training on pressure application for relaxing, for warming up muscles before a sporting event and more,'' he said.
As part of the final selection process, the doctors, who attened the training session, would be tested through a written examination ahead of the Game, he said.
Later, they would be given intense training in sports medicine in New Delhi, he added.
The selection process, which began four months ago, was based on directions from the Games Directorate and the Delhi Government, he said.
